‘Ring of Fire’ is a musical journey spanning the life of
Johnny Cash. It features over 30 of his most beloved songs performed by a
company of 10. The songs follow his life starting out in the cotton fields of
Arkansas to his performance at the Grand Ole Opry to his love of June Carter
and his infamous Folsom prison concert. Every song is performed 100% live by
this talented cast who hail from all over the country.
Johnny Cash is undoubtedly an American treasure whose songs
have transcended time and genre. The
choreography of Paula Hammons Sloan and musical direction of Steve Steiner present the songs of Cash in a creative non-intrusive way that highlights the
spirit in which they were written. “In the Sweet By and By,” the angelic voice
of Allison Fund soars and hits you in the heart about the pain of loss. The
entire cast, each playing a guitar, gets the crowd singing along to the classic
“I’ve Been Everywhere.” Several of the men from the cast portray the dreariness
of prison in “Folsom Prison Blues,” and the crooning of Stephen Brunson and
Amberly Ronsen will turn up the heat in the theater when they sing “While I’ve
Got it On My Mind.” Whether it’s your first time hearing a song (it was my
first time hearing “Egg Suckin’ Dog”) or the 1,000th time, you’ll
appreciate the energy and genuine love that the cast and crew put into each and
every performance.
Ring of Fire is playing now through February 2nd
at Laguna Playhouse.
When you go to the show be sure to arrive a little early to
get one of the drink specials from the bar. Johnny’s favorite drinks, Jack
& Coke and Jack & Ginger, are offered at a discounted price.
